Welcome to my online portfolio!

I graduated In 1982 with a degree in Fine arts and Illustration from art school in London, England and began a varied career in the arts. I worked for several years in London as a freelance Illustrator before discovering the world of animation. My painting skills and natural sense of colour seemed well suited to painting background scenery for animated film and TV and I enjoyed the more social, collaborative aspect of it. My first job was under the direction of Canadian animator Richard Williams (”The thief and the Cobbler” and “Who framed Roger Rabbit?”) The fiery passion and immense talent of this man made a huge impression on me and I was hooked! I have worked in the animation industry ever since.
I lived a typically nomadic lifestyle for many years, taking contracts in Europe, the United States and Canada. In 2000 I moved from Arizona to BC to join the art dept at Mainframe Entertainment in Vancouver. I’m now Senior Art Director at Bardel Entertainment where a big part of my job is mentoring and training younger artists in Production Design and Art Direction.
I’m very happily settled in Squamish, BC where I find the peace and beauty of our natural environment very nourishing. I’m gradually finding more time for my personal artistic expression - painting in oils. My series of recent paintings are a response to the local landscape and an exploration of the oil medium. My newest paintings begin with pouring paint and using a caligraphic approach to making compositions. I’m enjoying the spontaneity and fluidity of this technique. I’ll be showing the results at the Squamish Studio and Gallery Tour Art Walk - September 20th and 21st 2008. Tune in for more information!
