Hidden Worlds

Through recent studies of landscape and Nature, I have shifted my focus from observer/ painter of familiar scenes to a personal interpretation of the environment I’m familiar with. Walking and sketching outdoors, I examine the movement of wind, tides, erosion, changing river patterns and bird migration. I search for ways to include Nature into my art making process. Through the combination of watercolour, mono-prints and gelatin prints, I find ways to reference seasonal cycles such as salmon migration, the connectivity of root systems and the rich biomass that underpins all life in the forest. Making connections between smaller details and the broader landscape view, I hope to reveal the hidden, often overlooked, elusive nature of some wildlife and the idea that we need to know of its existence before we can hope to protect it.
